Master's Programs

Counseling

MEd

The Counselor Education program prepares students to meet the mental health needs of clients in the state of Louisiana and nationally. Graduates use their knowledge and skills to help individuals, couples, and families from diverse populations to enhance life adjustment, foster personal growth and wellness, promote social justice and advocacy, and expand competencies in coping with environmental demands across the lifespan.

Curriculum & Instruction

EdS | MA | MEd

The MA in Curriculum & Instruction serves students in a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds who are pursuing a wide range of goals from PhD admission to furthering professional development in a variety of educational fields.

The MEd in Curriculum & Instruction offers areas of focus in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, English, Elementary, Gifted Education, Math, Reading/Literacy, Social Studies, Special Education, or Science. Designed for certified teachers who want to advance their teaching expertise.

Educational Leadership

EdS | MEd

Designed for accomplished and caring teachers ready to take their skills to the next level. It helps prepare educators to become more effective leaders and administrators. This comprehensive program allows educators to attain more challenging and in-demand education jobs and to build learning communities that are welcoming, challenging, and rewarding for children and teachers alike.

Educational Leadership & Research

MA

The Educational Leadership & Research program prepares you to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. You’ll learn to shape and inform policy, collaborate with stakeholders, build consensus, coordinate institutional services and be accountable for strategic outcomes. Concentrations include Applied Research, Measurement & Evaluation, Educational Technology, and Higher Education Administration.

Teaching

MAT

The program integrates courses and experiences necessary for teacher certification and the master’s degree. The Elementary program is a one-year master’s program for candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from LSU. The Secondary program is a 15-month degree for prospective teachers in secondary areas (biology, chemistry, English, environmental science, French, mathematics, physics, social studies, Spanish). The candidate must first complete an undergraduate program in a college offering a degree in their area of teaching interest.

 

Doctoral Programs

Curriculum & Instruction

PhD

The doctoral program is structured to support interdisciplinary studies and individualization for researchers and practitioners. This degree offers specializations in various areas such as language arts/children’s literature, curriculum studies, early childhood education, English education, foreign language education, gifted education, mathematics education, reading/literacy, science education, social studies education, and special education.

Educational Leadership & Research

PhD

The doctoral program is designed to meet the professional and personal needs of educational leaders in school districts, higher education institutions, and non-governmental organizations through rigorous coursework. This degree offers specializations in educational leadership, higher education administration, and educational research methodology.

Graduate Certificates

Graduate Certificates can be completed in conjunction with a degree program or as a standalone certificate. These certificates give practitioners with an undergraduate degree coursework to increase their knowledge in specific fields. Some certificates lead to add-one certifications.

Graduate Minor

This minor is designed to deepen understanding of the teaching of writing pedagogy as well as extend personal practice as writers. Students interested in the graduate minor should meet with their advisor/major professor to design a Program of Study.
